Between 1986 and 1996 the firm designed additions and alterations to 2 dozen houses in historic Washington, DC, most of them 19th century row houses in the Capitol Hill Neighborhood where our task was most often to weave new light and openness through the dense fabric of traditional construction. Scott Street House SCOTT STREET HOUSE

Converting Clinton Day's 1899 neoclassical mansion from apartment to single family occupancy entailed extensive remodeling of its 14,000 square foot interior, recreation and extension of numerous period details, and the introduction of an entirely new three story elliptical main stair hall crowned by a 60 square foot stained glass window.
